How To Decide If The Olympus Stylus 800 Digital Camera Is Right For You
The Olympus stylus 800 digital camera is a good solid all round choice for general use, and it stands up well against the competition. If you are looking to buy a new camera, the first consideration will always be the conditions in which the camera is to be used. If you have a very specialized use in mind, then you should get in touch with a high end dealer who will be able to talk you through what you need, as you are likely to have some very specific needs. If you need a camera for work in wet conditions, for example, you will probably need a different Olympus model. The Stylus 800 is resistant to water to some degree, but not to the extent of some of Olympus's more specialized products.
This consideration aside, most users are looking for a good all round camera that will give good results in a variety of situations, and in this regard the Stylus 800 is a very good choice. One other area it may fall down on is if you need to take detailed photographs at a distance, as the model only has a zoom capability of 3x. This will not be enough for many users who are looking to capture things in nature, for example, so give careful consideration to this. Provided your subjects are going to be close to the camera, you can get very good results with the Stylus 800.
As with any modern camera, you get a lithium ion battery and a charger. These batteries are a great advance on the old nickel cadmium type of battery which was prone to suffer from the memory effect and cause problems. The capacity of lithium ion batteries is also far greater, and even on a basic model such as this will give you plenty of use. Where the capacity is nowhere near as good is on the memory card. There is only enough room for a paltry four pictures at the highest resolution level, which really is pitifully low. One of the first things you will need to do when you buy a Stylus 800 is to get an upgraded memory card.
It is important to factor this in to any purchasing choice you may be about to make. Although it is common for cameras to come with not a lot of memory as standard, four is an incredibly small number of pictures to be able to take before you need to clear the memory. Probably the only person who could manage with this is someone who carries a notebook around with them constantly. Even they will risk losing pictures they could take as they need to spend time transferring the files.
The Stylus 800 does not have a great number of accessories, and it very much a basic all purpose model designed for general family use. Provided you are not a photography fanatic who will be constantly yearning for features which have not been provided, there is no reason why you should not get a lot of satisfaction from a camera which is well capable of producing detailed shots. For a general use camera, you can do a lot worse than the Olympus stylus 800 digital camera.
